Cognitive reappraisal, emotional regulation, and cognitive behavioural therapy

Caring for others can stir intense emotions...frustration, guilt, exhaustion, and yet we are often expected to keep going without pause. In this engaging and evidence-based workshop, Luke Egan from Neuroscience Research Australia introduces carers to the science of emotional regulation and practical strategies for coping under pressure.

Learn the difference between Cognitive Reappraisal and Expressive Suppression, and how each affects the brain and body. Explore the neuroscience behind resilience and why some forms of coping help us thrive while others wear us down.

The session also introduces core ideas from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including the powerful “thoughts, feelings, actions” triad, and how reasoning, reframing, and behavioural patterns shape our wellbeing. Through relatable examples and hands-on strategies, you will learn how to rethink without overthinking, use frameworks as tools rather than constraints, and combine Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with other proven techniques to build healthier emotional habits in everyday life.
