Parents or Carers & Neurodiversity

It is evident that parents and carers of neurodivergent children experience significant challenges. It has been shown that they experience poorer mental health and quality and life outcomes than parents and carers of typically developing children. But why is this so? What are the specific needs of these parents? And what about the support needs of the parents of neurodivergent children who are themselves neurodivergent?
The online presentation aims to explore these questions. Together we will consider the role of stigma, judgement, and parent-blaming; acceptance and inclusion; formal and informal supports; systems and communities, and co-occurring conditions (including mental health) in creating or eroding personal wellbeing.
